Mark T. Dunbar currently serves as the Director of Optometric Services and the Optometric Residency Supervisor at the University of Miami's Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Dr. Dunbar has authored numerous papers, has refereed many optometric journals articles and currently writes the monthly Retina Quiz in Review of Optometry. He is also a Fellow in the American Academy of Optometry and is one of the founding members for both the Optometric Glaucoma Society (OGS) and the Optometric Retina Society (ORS).

Dr. Marc R. Bloomenstein is a 1990 graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in Biology. He received his optometric degree from the New England College of Optometry in 1994. After graduation Dr. Bloomenstein finished a residency in secondary ophthalmic care at the Barnet Dulaney Eye Center in Phoenix, Arizona. He received his fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry in December 1998 and is a founding member of the Optometric Council on Refractive Technology. Moreover, Dr. Bloomenstein is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Southern California College of Optometry.
    
Currently Dr. Bloomenstein is the Director of Optometric Services at the Schwartz Laser Eye Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Aside from lecturing and publishing on numerous anterior segment and refractive topics, Dr. Bloomenstein is on the editorial board of Primary Care of Optometry News and Contemporary Optometry and a frequent contributor to various optometric journals. Dr. Bloomenstein served as the President of the Arizona Optometric Association, as well as, an Optometric Advisor to STAAR Surgical and Medtronics Solan. Dr. Bloomenstein is the President of the Board of the Arizona Optometric Charitable Foundation.

Kelly Nichols, O.D., M.P.H., Ph.D., F.A.A.O., Dipl.PH. is a FERV Professor at the University of Houston College of Optometry. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the UC Berkeley, completed a residency in ocular disease in Colorado and earned her M.P.H. and Ph.D. at The Ohio State University. Dr. Nichols has been extensively involved in professional organizations including the American Optometric Association and the American Academy of Optometry. She serves as a medical advisor to the Sjögren's Syndrome Foundation and is a governing board member for both the Tear Film and Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) and the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry. Dr. Nichols is also on editorial boards for several journals, including, The Ocular Surface, Refractive Eye Care, and Optometry and Vision Science. She reviews for the NIH study section and other peer-reviewed journals. She chaired the TFOS International Meibomian Gland Workshop, is a member of the International Task Force for the revision of the SSF Dry Eye Clinical Guidelines, and is a member of the TFOS steering committee for Contact Lens Discomfort. Dr. Nichols lectures and writes extensively on dry eye, contact lenses, diabetes and public health, and women's health issues, and has mentored numerous graduate students in these areas. Her awards include the AOF Ezell Fellowship and the Borish Award from the American Academy of Optometry. She currently serves as Director of The Ocular Surface Institute (TOSI) at the University of Houston.
 
Dr. Nichols research interests include dry eye, meibomian gland dysfunction, blepharitis, inflammation, impact of menopause on dry eye, dry eye diagnostics and therapeutics, tear proteomics and lipidomics, and quality of life.

Dr. Stephen Pflugfelder is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Ocular Surface Center, Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston. He is a graduate of SUNY Upstate Medical University Syracuse and completed his ophthalmology residency at Baylor College of Medicine, followed by a corneal fellowship at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine. Dr. Pflugfelder was invited to join the faculty of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in 1985 and was promoted to professor in 1998. He returned to the Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine as a professor in July 2000, and was awarded the James and Margaret Elkins Chair in Ophthalmology in 2002. Dr. Pflugfelder began performing refractive surgery in 1985 and has published more than 150 research articles, book chapters, and monographs on disease and surgery of the cornea, including excimer laser vision correction surgery.

Clark L. Springs, MD, is the Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute at the Indiana University of School of Medicine. Dr. Springs earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his internship at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana; his residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine, also in Indianapolis; and his fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He is an expert in refractive and cataract surgery and corneal transplantation, and has authored many peer-reviewed publications on these and other topics in ophthalmology.
1. Describe recent guideline protocols for diagnosing dry eye disease (DED), classifying DED severity, and differentiating underlying etiologies of DED
2. List the current recommendations for the treatment and follow-up of DED by level of severity and underlying etiologies
